Recovery is priced per job, not from a menu, which is why two people can pay very different amounts on the same night. Four things explain almost all of the difference.
1. Distance
Not just how far the car is going, but how far the truck has to come. A pickup in Business Bay dropped in Al Quoz is a short job. The same car taken to Ajman is not. Intercity recovery is priced separately from inner-city work.
2. Vehicle type and condition
- Standard saloon that rolls — cheapest. Wheel-lift is enough.
- Low or luxury car — needs a flatbed with low-angle ramps.
- Car that will not roll or steer — winching, more time on site.
- Van, 4x4 or heavy vehicle — bigger truck, higher rate.
- Motorcycle — needs straps and a wheel chock, not a standard hook.
3. Time of day
Night, early morning and public holidays cost more everywhere in the world, and Dubai is no exception. The gap is not dramatic, but it is real. Fridays and the small hours are the busiest windows.
4. Access
This is the factor most people forget. A car in an open car park is straightforward. A car in a basement with 1.9m clearance needs a dolly or a winch and a second man, and it takes far longer. Tell the dispatcher it is a basement job on the first call so the right equipment arrives the first time.
Describe the car, the location and the problem, and you get a price on the call. Call 052 686 1786.
What should not be on the bill
- A callout fee when you decide not to proceed
- A "waiting charge" that was never mentioned
- A different number at the drop-off than the one quoted on the phone
- Storage fees you did not agree to
How to keep the cost down
- Say exactly what is wrong — a jump start is much cheaper than a tow, and sometimes that is all you need
- Share a location pin so the driver does not circle
- Pick the drop-off before the truck arrives
- If the car is drivable after a roadside fix, take that option
Ask for the total on the phone and confirm it with the driver when he arrives. A company that quotes clearly before dispatch is the one worth saving in your contacts.
